SIKAPTala 2025

On March 24, 2025, I participated in SIKAPTala 2025, a national CS and IT competition hosted by De La Salle University – Dasmariñas (DLSU-D), where our team presented “FitForMotion: An AI Fitness Progressive Web App for Gym Enthusiasts with Progress Visualization and Predictive Analytics” under the Artificial Intelligence category. Although I wasn’t the presenter, I contributed to building the presentation and organizing materials, while Mr. Mahasiah Bautista handled the presentation and Ms. Andrea Anne Orca focused on the coding side. The event was well-organized, with teams first placed in breakout rooms before being moved to the main room for presentations, ensuring smooth transitions and keeping teams focused. Our team didn’t make it to the final round, but we were proud to represent Gordon College, and one of our fellow teams made it to the finals.

This experience enhanced my understanding of how to effectively communicate technical ideas in limited time and highlighted the importance of visuals and structure in presentations. It was also inspiring to see how diverse the IT field is, with projects addressing healthcare, agriculture, IoT, machine learning, and mobile development. I gained insights into turning a technical idea into a user-ready project and recognized the value of collaboration, where each team member contributed according to their strengths.

The event was well-managed, with efficient use of breakout rooms, Microsoft Teams, and Facebook Live, creating a smooth and professional virtual experience. For future events, I suggest providing feedback to all participants to help us improve and adding a virtual networking space to encourage collaboration and idea-sharing among participants from different schools.
